Santino A Castaneda

Date of Birth: June 24 1991
Occupation: Graphic Designer/ Artist/ Illustrator/ Apprentice for Evil Robo Productions or ERP for short.

Influences: 1970-80's Grind House/ Budget cinema, Sean Healey, Tarantino, Jordi Bernet, Chris Bachalo, Yasuhiro Nightow, Sean Galloway, Hannah Barbera, Suda 51, Monkey Punch, Gainax, Dean Yeagle, and Sean Gordon Murphy.

My name is Santino A Castaneda, and I'm an artist/ creator for Evil Robo Productions and I'm currently apprenticing under the wing of Eric Schock.

I'm the writer and artist for the series called "Bang!" which is a heavily grindhouse influenced series. "Bang!" is only the begining tale of a much bigger tale that will be broken down into a trilogy of stories that will have a connecting theme.

Growing up as a kid, I watched a lot of films and cartoons that were older than me, and the movies were a lot more graphic than usual kid stuff. I didn't get to dwell too much into the cartoons aired at the time when I was young, because I didn't have cable, but what I did have was my parants' vast VHS collection of Action Movies and Classic Cartoon shows.

I pretty much thrived on films like "The Evil Dead", "Killer Clowns", "Desperado", "Mad Max", and other crazy moviesĀ  like that to fill out my time.

As I got older, I found myself being more fond of shows that were older than me, and having a large preference to Hannah Barbera shows, and at this time I also finally got ahold of cable, which is where I discovered anime shows like Fooly Cooly, Big O, and Lupin III, which years down the road became a major influnce to my art style.

When I graduated Highschool in 2009, I had the same career path in mind as I did as an 8 year old kid: Draw comics for a living.

I didn't know how to go about that, honestly, considering my art sucked, my networking and social skills were crap, and I knew absolutely nothing about the industry. My industry magician of a friend An Tim Nguyen assisted me in picking up some of those skills, and guided me a few steps closer to my career. But, the fact that he lived in another state limited the extent of which he could help me, and he was doing all he could do.

About a year or so later, I met the Evil Robo team and began going to all their awesome charity events. What caught my interest about this team was that just like Exploitation and Budget film directors that I so admired, these guys simply created comics because they loved their craft, not the money. They did it for comics and the fans, not for fame or the profit!

Flash forward to today, and I'm working with those same creators, and they've become like a family to me. I didn't see that coming!
